Right... I've been planning for a weekend away and unfortunately my fish have come down with ich (2 days ago). The ich was caught very very quickly and they are already responding to medication. Tomorrow afternoon I will be leaving until Sunday evening. I had planned to do a water change before leaving to ensure they had the best water while I was away... but... I'm thinking... is it maybe best to leave the water as is (changed it 2 1/2 days ago about 50%) so the medication will continue doing its job? As I will miss giving them 1 dose while I am away. I am also leaving them with a 3 day food block. There are no problems with the water stats at this time.

So... do I do a water change tomorrow morning or do I leave it as is until I return Sunday when I will do a big water change?

Editted to add: There is no option for me to have anyone come and monitor things while I am away.

Not sure about a water change, personally I would leave it as you're only gone for a few days, but I'm sure others will have a better idea. I'd leave the food block out- fish can easily go a couple of weeks without food, so a few days wont be a problem for them. The food block could cause water problems though.

I'd do a water change and redose the meds. Agree also about the food block; they very often foul the water, which is the last thing you need if you're not there to keep an eye on things.

I can leave the food block out of two of my tanks with the adult fish, but I will need a food block in my third tank as I have guppy fry in there (normally they are with the adults but they are really small and moved in with the shrimp so I could be sure they could have a food block and not have it eaten by adults).

I agree in chamge the water and re-dose. Remove the feeding block from adult tank as the fish dont need it & can easily go with out for a few days althougj agree with the fry as they ideally need feeding three times+ a day (well thats what we did with mine & they've grown well!!).
Im sure all will be ok!!

I will do the change... I think that would make me feel better while I'm away!

I'm extra paranoid about my fish at the moment. After ages of being problem free I then had a huge epidemic in one tank that wiped out everyone. Tank has been cleaned and fish moved around and new ones added and everyone has been perfectly fine... but can't shake the dread of each morning when it wasn't!
