just want any advice or tips on breeding my german blue ram not done it b4 but cant wait to c whats going to happen

water temp, type of food, how to tell when shes going to lay here eggs that sort of thing

thanks

are they a breeding pair. you cant just expect to get two rams and hope for them to breed. what are your tank dimentions? are there any other fish in the tank with them? you should be looking at getting about 3 males and 3 females from your lfs and wait for them to pair off. then send the others back. once youv got a breeding pair, i think you can prevoke them to breed by turning the water temp up or down or do frequent 25% water changes.

If it's a girl and a boy, they will pair (german rams). At least out of 27 pairs, all of mine have......

I breed mine in 10 gallons. Most people tell me I'm doing that wrong-but oddly enough my rams don't think so....

do NOT put other fish in the tank with the pair..

keep the water VERY clean (I do water changes daily of 20%, but every other to every three days should be ewnough. Esp if a larger tank)

Keep it between 84-86 degrees

Use sponge filters. It saves hassle when you find unexpected spawns the parents hid. Put in 1 4" flower pot, 3 1" flower pots or rockwork if you prefer. Try to hide the openings a bit with plants/fake works.

Low PH helps, but not necessary, I use tap water for mine but my water is very soft and slightly acidic-if yours is not I would try using 50/50 RO water to soften it or eggs won't hatch.

Try not to put the pair in a high traffic area. I've had two or three pairs that would breed in the living room-but get much better results with the tanks in my kitchen and bedroom, as traffic in those areas are pretty limited to certain times of the day.

When you notice your girl getting really pink- try live blackworms. This and a slightly lower temperature water change will usually induce spawning. If you can stand losing a clutch or three, leave them alone with their parents-you lose a LOT less fry if the parents raise them for a week or two than if you do....not sure why, but it works that way:)

Good luck!
