My two uaru have very small white dots on their tail. The one has 3 and other has one. Is this possibly ich or something like it?

The Uaru looks young (about 2 inches), is that correct?

It looks like white spot. The easiest way to treat them is by turning the temperature up to 30C (86F) and keeping it there for 2 weeks, then bring it back down to 26C. The heat will kill the white spot parasites and any other protozoan parasites in the tank and you won't need to use any chemicals.

Increase aeration when increasing temperature because the warmer water holds less oxygen.

Wipe the inside of the glass down and do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate before raising the temperature. Clean the filter too if it hasn't been done in the last 2 weeks.

There is more info on white spot at the following link if you're interested. The first post on page 1 and the second post on page 2 are worth reading.

Thank you for the help! Also, would it be best to use some sort of medication with this treatment. I read that garlic or aquarium salt might help.
