I am currently doing a fishless cycle, and my ph keeps dropping so was doing my daily water change today and noticed when the water level dropped that on my internal filter there was about 10 white tiny insects skimming around on top of it??? What are they?

i wud say its probably planaria

they arent harmfull

there isnt anyfish in the tank is there?

no there arent any fish in the tank, the insects are so small that you cant see any distinctive features on them, just white dots mooving around. How did they get in?

Little dot's sounds like cyclops.

They can come in on anything that's been in another aquarium (plants, rocks, filter media, gravel and even fish).

Harmless though, you dont usually see them in tanks because the fish eat them.

ok well i got real plants and some bog wood so they must have come in on one of them, cheers

Daphnia is a strong possibility too. They have a jumpy sort of swimming motion.

are any of these bad or will it be ok then?

Daphnia are harmless, most smaller fish will eat them.

Have you put in any plants or taken water from a natural source (lake, river, etc.)?
The other possibility if you've used all new equipment and conditioned tap water, the most likely candidate is some sort of insect larva. Mosquitos, dragonflies and many other insects lay eggs in water and their larva develop in the water before they "grow" wings and fly off.

put 2 plants in, and bogwood, water from tap, plants from internet and bogwood from the shop.
