Right, just read this thread.

Your tank won't be cycled in just 3 weeks, so don't go adding any more fish yet. If you do they'll most likely die on you like most of your others have done. Once a tank is cycled it's best to give it a clean and let it settle on constant measurements for a few weeks at least, to let the tank catch up before adding more fish. It's a long waiting game but if you care about your fish and their health, then it's worth it in the long run :)

Ideally this is what I would do and have done with all my tanks when cycling...

do a daily 10% water change with treated water. Treated water means adding a dechlorinator to the water before putting it in your tank.

Feed your fish once every 3 days...ie sparingly.

Test your water daily and record the levels. This way you can keep track of what the ammonia and nitrites and nitrates are doing.

Find out the Ph, hardness levels etc of your tap water then you can use this information to help you choose which fish you are going to put in your tank.

Once your ammonia and nitrite are at zero and your nitrates are low as well, do 10% water changes once a week and keep on that track. Don't add anymore fish for a few weeks to allow everything to settle.

Hope that helps and isn't coming out like rubbish :D

just scouts around the tank all day maded really apart from rips me plants to bits

sounds like you already have plants? do you have plants in there? if you do, just say so, it'll be easier for people to help if they know what they are looking to help with.

the reason why someone says that is because we tell you in every single one on your posts!
And keep your idiotic swearing out of the fourms, its ment to be a nice place, not your local bar.....

plant food shouldn't effect your cycle, aslong as its aquatic fish safe...

If you read all of this persons threads, he/she is a troll!

  i have had my fish tank for 3 weeks now and have 4 neons and a cat fish left and have only fed them once in 2 weeks coz pet shop said so. But seem happy how long said dont feed coz nitrate is high or summert and amonia from fish food and waste causing it to be very high. But any way how long does it take to cycle a tank with 5 fish innit?????? i did have 11 by the way a pet shop owners say 10 neons are best fish to start with now i no diffrent. I do a 50%water change twice weekly aswell as they say need to dilute it alot but am hoping i can put fish in the tank tmz. also how long does live plants live????????????????????????????????and
and can u put sum plant growth in tank whilst the tank is cycling????????????
otr will it mess with the cycling????????????? plz answer my questiong in full if poss please need as much info as i can get thanxx    :( :-( :/

You should consider doing some research on your own before you try posting. If you're serious about this hobby, I would STRONGLY recommend you to doing so. Also, make sure that you read the rules on how to post entries in these forums. You lacked a lot of information for others to help you with your tank. Finally, review your post before posting it because your english/grammar is very hard to read. It gave me a headache tryign to finish reading it and trying to understand what you are trying to say.

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your poor fishies! I actually didn't know what fishless cycling was, so I left my tank for six weeks and then added neons (DOH!) . Neons are pretty hardy fish, and luckily all mine survived. I think the best thing for you to do is read up on water chemistry, some of the basics I had to quickly learn are the following:

Ammonia - poisonous and needs to be at zero!
Nitrite - Also as poisonous but it means the ammonia is breaking down - also needs to be at 0
Nitrate - is probably at about 10-20 in a cycled tank and isn't harmful iin small amounts, and is a biproduct of ammonia breaking down.

The first thing you should do is buy a test kit that tests all of these, I would suggest you do water changes of 20% daily as any more and you will be removing the ammonia and nitrite your good bacteria need to feed on in order to be able to get strong enough to support fish. You can also buy some products to help you to aid it, I used one called cycle - not sure if it does actually help but like I said my fish survived. And your neons are one of your best fish to start with but they are not indistructable. I would also look into finding a new adisor at your lfs. Also if they advise you to try guppies instead as first fish, completely ignore them, guppies do better in a mature tank, so no less than a couple of months old.

A fishless cycle is hard work, I have never done one and takes a bit of knowledge and research. I would definately take back your cat fish, it isn't likely to survive, I would keep up with your water changes and try and obtain some mature filter media, maybe you could post it on the wanted section and see if someone could help.

Even with fish in it, it will take around 6 weeks to cycle your tank, if not more and you shouldn't have added any more than five as your filter needs time to adjust to the waste load. Also, if you are having trouble, people could help you a lot more if you added your tank size, your ph, decor, nitrite and nitrate.

Good luck.

Sorry, also your fish do need feeding daily, a small pinch will do, try about 6 or 7 flakes.
