Tiger Snail Isn't Very Well :(

Hi,
My tiger snail looks to have split his shell. I know he wasn’t looked after properly until I got hold of him about a month ago. I have absolutely no idea what’s happened to him. He's still moving around.

 
Any ideas?

What fish do you keep him with? When you put it in did you just drop it or place it gently? If you kept it with cichlids it would be bad, VERY BAD!!!

He's been in there for a couple of years. No cichlids. He's with 2 small catfish and a medium sized catfish. When I got the tank (a month or so ago) it hadn't been cleaned properly for about a year if not more. He's been like this since then. I thoght it had died, but he was actually laying dormant. He's only started moving around the past few days.

Catfish can cause injury to inverts. What catfish was with it? Synodontis?
