Hello i currently have 3 Tiger oscar babys (1.5 - 2 inch long) and i was just wandering i feed them two little pinch's of cichlid gold baby pellet a day and they seem to be getting fat just wandered if that was normal.

Ive chucked some peas in earlier to try and make them Poo some of it out

Any ideas??? worry or not??

baby oscars should be kept fat and well fed so they can grow fast. Once they are older and bigger you can reduce the feeding.

i'd say pretty unlikely they normally pick gravel up with there mouth they spit it back out once eaten the crap out of it lol :) nice!!!!!!!

Ok cheers for the help people will stop panicing just want to keep these for there life span!!

And make sure you do regular water changes and gravel cleans. Because they are big eaters (that eat lots of high protein foods) and produce a lot of waste, the water will go off very quickly if you aren't careful and that can lead to all sorts of problems. Good filtration, regular water changes & gravel cleans will prevent most problems and give your fish the best opportunity to survive.

i wouldnt have thought they would eat the gravel, unless like jenni said they just pick up up and spit it out again, and you will need to do lots of vacs as they really are dirty fish, mine seem to eat everything i give them, even if i put the pellets in 1 at a time, there is always a pile of them in the corners that have been left and need vac`ing out,and this will ake your tank cloudy and very smelly if not hoovered soon, you def need regular water changes, i would say a lot more often than other fish, and mine have benefited fron it as they are over an inch bigger than the ones we left behind at the lfs now,and much more "filled out"
i feed mine, cichlid pellets (staple) prawns( cooked and chopped) peas (boiled and squished) and some bloodworm
also while they are young, start hand feeding them, i know they can be a bit quick off the mark sometimes, but you will all get used to it

oooohhhh your gonna have tonnes of fun with these :)

shelagh xxxx

it also looks to me like there colour is fading any help???

doing a huge water change as we speak

are you 100%, ?? the reason i ask is because buddie looks quite dark, but is tonnes paler than jambo when he comes close.. check him in diffrent places in the tank,so hes seen under diff lighting, you may just find hes just like buddie
shelagh xxx

yes then i guess so, mine are getting used to water changes now, hardley a strop between them these dayz lol
forgot to add, what have you got on the bottom of the tank?
