Hey Yall.

Got a question re my Oscar.

When I bought my Wet Pet he was about the size of a thumb. He had red color stripes on his body.

He is now at a length of 8inchs and has lost the red color. I was at my LFS and saw some small fry Tiger Oscars with the same

red markings.

Do Tigers Lose the color the bigger they get or is there some other cause?

not all of them lose the colour :shifty: i have two oscars one was quite orange as he got bigger it started to fade them one day boom its like hes been tango'd
gandulf the second one went from a beautiful colour to nothing at all except the eye at tail them also boom now hes getting alot of orange appearing....this was around about a month after i changed there food a got<hikari cichlid gold<a complete and balanced enhancing colour daily diet> :good:
not saying this is what did it but honestly they litterally change colour every other month

you can see here them growing and changing ;)

while yes some oscars colours will change naturally an oscars colour can also be a good indication of how happy he is, if his black bits look greyish and the organe isn't vibrant he could be telling you something is wrong.

if you would like to post some details of your set up (tank size, water parameters, inhabitants, maintenance etc) then we can help rule this out for you if you like.

I agree very much with miss wiggle. before we all just say dont worry about it, its natural, we should check out a few other things. Cichlids wear their emotion on their skin affecting color so it can often be the first indication of how they are feeling. If it feels cramped or uncomfortable, it can turn pale. the loss of color could also be affected by its diet. what do you feed the big guy?
