What are some fish that go well with tiger barbs. I have 4 barbs now in a 10 G tank. I'm thinking of some tetras and/or a couple of cory catfish. I'm thinking of some glolight, lemon, or possibly neon tetras.

I may get 1 or 2 more barbs if fin nipping becomes a problem.

Any opinions?

whatever you do get, i wouldnt get many more fish...

4 tiger barbs will equal 12" of fish so you dont have much room to add anymore at approx. 1" of fish per gallon

not to mention tiger barbs should be kept in a larger tank IMO...they are extremly active and will not enjoy such a small tank....at least 30" is best IMO

I agree - we have a 40 gallon tank with 6 Tiger barbs - they started in a smaller tank (when we first started keeping fish) and IMO they are much happier in the larger tank. They swim extremely fast and like to hurtle around a lot. If they have not the space then they become quite aggressive with other fish. Since ours were moved we have not had any problem at all with the Tigers - they are busy with themselves.

WE have bronze corys, swordtails, pristellas (tetras), glass catfish, acquatic frogs and puffer fish along with the Tiger Barbs - and no bother at all.

the tank is too small for the tigher barbs and they need to be in gorups of at least 7 to be happy and not nip eachother!

I have 4 tiger barbs in my 34 gal tank, and they look lost in it. I have three plants and thats it - oh, and sone sand. Only reason I got 4 is that they were chep and fast, and look nice. Oh, and I didn't want to lose too many fish at my first attempt !

I'm gonna get some more plants at the weekend, and some more fish. I have a Hagen Tropiquarium 88, with a BioLife filter. Fish have been fine so far,but do tend to hide behind the filter so I can't see them. I've turned the light off for a bit now and they're zooming round the tank better. I'm always releived when I count 4 fish still....

Always fancied a red tipped shark, and a few crabs. I read that the barbs like to be in a groups, so I'll get about 8 more making 12.

Comments on the shark/crabs ?

Nick

crabs eat fish...probably will catch the tiger barbs eventually

red-finned sharks get aggressive and territorial with time
