This happened a couple months ago with some of the new batch of barbs I got. I put them all in a Q tank for a couple days and they were fine.

Now I have one from the old group who's got the shimmies. Does anyone know what the cause of this is? Tummy seem a bit swollen. I fed them peas earlier in case it's constipation (since they're such pigs) but she's still shimmying, pointing straight down and sometimes swimming nearly upside down.

Any help appreciated. Never did figure out what happened the first time around.

I did check water parameters and they're 0/0/30. Water temp is around 80ºF.

This clip is when just one had it. Now I've got 3 or 4. I'd love to hear that it's a mass mating ritual, but I'll bet not. Any help please.

swim-bladder disease? Just throwing an idea out there... Poor guy I just want to help him he looks like he is struggling so hard to get back to a regular position.

Thanks for your reply. I was reading somewhere else that swim bladder problems are just a symptom of something else, so I'm just not sure. Yesterday I fed them some peas in place of a regular flake meal. This morning they all seem fine.

So in place of flakes for breakfast I feed them dried bloodworms and they all seem quite happy and healthy. Not a single one has the shimmies!

In the end I think I'll blame it on overfeeding. They're such voracious eaters that it seems like they're hungry all the time, so it's easy to overfeed. I'll just have to be very careful from now on.

The next hurdle with them will be to try breeding them.
