I bought 3 tiger barbs and 3 greeb tigers a couple of days ago, and every morning when i switch the aquarium light on, theyre all face down in the plants, theyre still moving and everything and theyre fine now swimming about as normal. Does anyone else's do this??

They sound like they're sleeping :D

If its in the morning then I agree, they're probably sleeping. I've never had tiger barbs though. Unless you see any signs of disease then I shouldn't worry.

I'd say sleeping too.

When I first started owning fish of my own (1997) I did the usual overstocking 30litre etc, had the deaths expected too. - I'd been out one evening and got home about 1am. I remember turning the tank lights on just to check them. Needless to say they were all swirling around with the current and looking odd.
I panicked but thought couldn't do much, ill have to deal with in the morning.
They were all fine, just sleeping :D

We learn loads whilst keeping fish :)

Sounds like my Green Tigers. Often see them floating nose down when the lights are out. Pretty sure they're sleeping as they've been doing it for over a year now and they're all still ok!

All of my guppies lie on the gravel when they sleep, it cute - they look like little mermaids resting there :)

Classic.. You got high nitrates..

????
Please explain to me the science behind how nitrates affect fish?

I know nitrite poisoning makes tiger barbs' headstand', but I don't think they're affected by nitrate in the same way.

I don't think that's the case in the OPs situation either, it does sound like they're just sleeping. Always worth checking the water in case though.
