I'm positing this in the Cichlid Forum as most of the questions I have are Cichlid related. Thought I'd have the best luck here!

Some of you may be aware I've been keeping my eye out for a hospital tank. I was looking at some 10 Gallon tanks, but a friend of mine suggested that I should use my current 29 Gallon as a hospital/quarantine tank. Problem is, I have 9 Tiger Barbs, 2 Platies, and a BN Pleco in there right now. I also have a 55 Gallon that I have: 20 Harlequin Rasboras, BN Pleco, GBR Pair, Klugei Pair. Rather than a 10 Gallon tank, I've been looking for another 55 Gallon or larger to move the inhabitants of the 29 Gallon into and take my friend's advice and use the 29 Gallon for the QT.

I have a few options:

Option 1:

55 Gallon: Move the Tiger Barbs, Platies, and possibly the other BN Pleco with current fish.
29 Gallon: Use for hospital/quarantine.
New Tank: New stock of fish.

Option 2:

55 Gallon: Leave as is.
29 Gallon: Use for hospital/quarantine.
New Tank: Move the Tiger Barbs, Platies, BN Pleco, and stock accordingly.

Option 3:

55 Gallon: Leave as is.
29 Gallon: Leave as is.
New Tank: New stock of fish.
Buy a 10 Gallon anyway and raise my tank #s to 4

I've done some preliminary searching, and it seems the Tigers may be OK with the Cichlids I have now. Here are some fish I'm thinking of for the new tank:

Bolivian Rams
Gold Rams
Angelfish (My LFS has Blushing Angelfish )
Pitbull Plecos
Rainbowfish (possibly Bosemani or something else that stays under 4")

I know I can't have the Angels with the Tigers, so I'd have to put them in whatever tank the Tigers are NOT in. Would the Angels do OK in my current 55 Gallon setup (I'm thinking 2 or 4) or would that be something to add to the new tank? The tank I'm looking at buying right now is between 65 - 75 gallons. I would be doing a fishless cycle on that one, as well as pulling some media from either my 55 or 29, so I have some time to figure this out. I always try and plan ahead though!

Suggestions welcome. :)

Well moot point now. I went with Option 3 as he also threw in a 10 Gallon for free. :good: The big tank is actually only a 55 Gallon; he thought it was larger than it actually is. It's going to need some TLC and a good cleaning. I'll be working on that the next few days and will maybe start a journal for the 55 Gallon.
