Hey...i have spotted one of my tiger barbs with its tail half nipped off...the tail looks similar to the other tail fins of my other tiger barbs but the pointy bit at the end is clearly bitten...He is still eating correctly, showing good colours but the only problem is that he is having a bit trouble swimming and is much slower than the other fish...I have not noticed any other fish nipping at the 'soon to be tailess' tiger barb except some of the smaller kribensis in their with him...The small kribensis pair and some of the other small kribs only nip at him once in a while but never the other tiger barbs or the other fish (probably because it has a disability)...The tiger barb is currently housed in a 40g with 2 other tiger barbs, and angelfish, pearl gourami, a bristlenose and 6 small kribensis 3-4cm long (2 kribs are a pair)....I have a spare 10g tank but the only problem is i don't have a heater for it...So can i just place the injured tiger barb in a breeding net (15 by 15cm) for a short while wilst in the larger tank until its tail fin will grow back?? or???
Thanks for any replies.
P.S. will the tail actually repair itself given a reasonable amount of time with no disturbance?

Sorry if he's struggling to swim he won't make it he will just get exhausted.
Put him in a container at the top of the tank.

Like Wilder I would suggest that you seperate him from the other fish until he is well...If you have a spare 10g you should really think about getting a heater...laying idle when you need it most isn't great! :)

Check out www.zooplus.com for really cheap heaters. I got one tonight (Tetratec 300W) for only 15 euro (about 20 dollars or 10 pounds sterling)...pennies I tell ya...pennies!! :)

ye i could separate it it by putting it in a breeding net for a while...but the breeding net is 15cm by 15cm...will that be a reasonable size for his isolation until its tail will get better??
Yep i will consider getting a small heater asap but im using the spare heater for my 15 gallon kribensis breeding tank...So for temporary i am just thinking of isolating him in the breeding net i mentioned above for a short while if thats not a trouble for him...

Need to remove him as the fish are still pecking at him and he must be stressed.
To be honest see it before once they struggle to swim they don't make it.
