thxz every 1but i dont need 2 start my salt water set up again its just that i had the heater to high and i dont need a bigger tank because ive seen clown in 2.5 gallons so ill be good. but is live coral better for them because i have a cut one from the pet shop thats dead. i dont mean like it died i mean like i already bought it dead

1.) Empty the tank
2.) Research how to cycle a tank
3.) Research how to look after one clownfish as that is all that will fit in that tank
4.) Refill the tank with water and calibrate the heater with no livestock
5.) Add salt and mix thoroughly
6.) Add a minimum of 10lbs of live rock
7.) Leave to cycle and test water parameters daily
8.) Add the fish when cycle has ended
9.) Maintain a strict regime with water changes and testing

I may be wrong but it sounds like you haven't the faintest idea how to look after a marine tank and personally I think a 10g will be too much of a challenge. Try getting a 55g or bigger to start with as they are more forgiving to the uneducated.

Unless your tank was fully equiped with mature liverock then your lfs gave your fish a death sentance even without the heater doing the job first.

Aqua is right, follow his check list and be patient. Marines cannot be rushed even by the more experienced keepers.

Can't add more to this....you have to hit the books and read this forum for a few weeks unless you want to lose more fish. SH

May be an idea to take the advice given by the above members, between those 3, they have forgotten more than most know after years at this hobby

:/ :/

IMO your tank simply hadnt cycled and your livestock suffered for this

The fact that you ask that question shows that you have done no research into the fish, corals or Nano tanks at all.

As you think you know what you're doing my next piece of advice would be to just buy dead fish from the LFS, you'll get them cheaper, possibly free, and it will save you the time and hassle of killing them yourself :grr:

It up to you.. take the advice or leave it. Just dont come back posting about further failures as the members here care alot about their livestock and wont want to assit you if you simply throw their advise out the window. Whilst the heater almost certainly did do alot of damag to the setup, the advice given is sound and i stand by these members.
No way should a clown be kept in 2.5 gallons of water. a fully grown clown can reach 5 inches with ease. Oxygen levels in salt water is extremly low and this would be torture for the fish let alone the volume it has to live in. Yes it is posible to get around this with pumping more oxygen into the tank (and i dont mean an airstone).

With regards to the fish
Just because something can be done however doesnt make it right to do it

This is not aimed at ony member specifically................

It really baffles me why some people come onto the forum to ask questions, then when they get factual replies that they don't like or don't want to hear they just ignore all the advice given and do what they want to anyway :dunno:

It would be better for all if they just talked to themselves in a mirror, that way they'll get to hear what they want to hear without antagonising other members.

This is a friendly forum but it begins to get tedious when you see the same patterns emerging time and time again.

We are not on commission and we don't get paid to sell certain things......your LFS does! No matter how well you know them they are still running a business.

The simple fact is that advice is offered, whether you take it or not is your perogative, however, if you turn round and snub the advice then don't expect a 'smiley friendly' reply to your next post.

-_-

its upto the person to take the advise. the best we can do is to give the advise and hope the person takes it for thier sake and the fish. :/

Coming from somebody who posts on a few other forums, mostly car related...this is a friendly forum. Just because somebody got some advice they didnt want to hear doesnt compremise that at all. For people here being as passionate as they are about the hobby I expected this thread to get alot more nasty and it didnt, which surprised me. This really IS a friendly forum.

I would not normally dignify this with a response but I am going to make an exception in this case.

This is by far the friendliest/patient (and knowledgeable forum I have been on).

I have received an awful lot of advice from members of this forum firstly in the fresh water and latley in this section and at all times the experienced members have given their own free time to post a reply (sometimes very comprehensive replies) which has always been very helpful.

There is really no substitute for research (as I am currently doing in preperation for a salt water set up).

I hope you and your fish are sucsessful but I fear you are both doomed to failure if you are unable to learn from advice and others peoples mistakes/experience.
