First post here so deep breath and here goes!!!! :) :)
I have a problem with thread algae in my planted tropical tank - black clumps of feathery growth on plants/bogwood/filter outlet. I guess the problem is high PO4 5-10ppm and NO3 10ppm (NH4 AND NO2 0ppm) I have done two 25% water changes over the last 3 days and now added 25ml of Interpet Anti Hair Algae treatment planning weekly treatments after water changes. I have also put a bag of approx 1/3rd of a 250ml pot of Rowaphos in the filter what else can I do? My PO4 from the tap is 0ppm NO3 from tap 10ppm (will soon be 0ppm from new RO unit when I get the additive from my LFS).

Any other ideas to help beat this?

David

how big is the tank, and how many LPH is the aquaone pump?

I'm thinking lack of flow also.

how often do you do water changes?
The tank is 215 l. and the powerhead on the overhead filter is rated at 1000l/hr.

I generally try do do a weekly 20-25% water change although sometimes it slips to 10-14 days

The water changes are fine at 25% every 14 days, your flow is a little on the low side, you currently have 1500LPH and you should aim for 2200LPH, the filter you're using is a little on the small side, and you would do better with something like a tetratec Ex 1200
