5 Long Finned Zebra Danios
8 Lambchop Rasboras
3 Honey Gouramis
1 Betta Splendens
7 Peppered Cories
4 Panda Cories
10 Emerald Green Cories
10 Cardinal Tetras
2 LF BN Plecs
10 Rummynose Tetras
1 Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
5 Botia Kubotia

What do you think? My wife wants a bit more color which is why we're getting the Powder blue and Rummynose. I personally just really want a group of Botia Kubotai

IMO, the amount of fish isn't a problem, for me, I think you have too many species. Keep fewer species but in larger groups, especially the fish that are schooling fish.

That's just me.

Agreed.

Why three different cories? I'd go with 11 peppered OR pandas, with the emeralds, not both.

Also, if it is color you are after, I would omit the danios and replace them with more of the rasboras, cardinals or rummynose.

I would add that for colors, livebearers really bring a splendid array of colors. Mollies come in a nice variety of colors from yellow, silver, black or dalmation variety. Platies come in orange, red, yellowy, blue, red with black. As do swordtails. Then, you have guppies. Males come in blue, red or yellow.

Have you looked into rainbowfish at all? They are some of the most colorful varieties. I would also steer clear of a betta. A planted set-up will usually need a higher circulation than a betta prefers. Plus, the more colorful fish you mix with bettas and the longer their fins, the less they will get along with the betta (or the betta with them).

Well I guess I should be a bit more specific. Everything in my sig below is going into the new tank. I had a 10 with Cardinals and Emeralds that we decided to 'consolidate' into the 36 and then into the 75. I had to temporarily keep a bala shark, albino rainbow, and Raphael cat so I put all the fish from the 10 into the 36 to be able to house them til I rehomed.

Soooo long story short they are in. I do agree with you both though - I prefer larger numbers of smaller species too. We talked about the idea of rehoming the Danios and Pandas actually, but this 36 is our first ever experience with fish so we have a bit more of an attachment to them I suppose :)

I think that over time as we lose some we will 'phase' out the Danios and Pandas and do what you're recommending. I will definitely steer clear of livebearers! I have my hands full with plec fry as it is. The rainbowfish is an interesting suggestion though. I will definitely look into them as I know there are a few I can keep.

Oh and you'd be shocked how well the Betta gets on with everyone. The only thing he flares at in the tank is his own reflection!

I'll think more if I can stand to part with any of the current tankmates. It will be tough but I tend to agree with your ideas. Thanks!

By the way, do you think a Koralia nano that moves 450gph would create too much of an extra current for these fish (filters will be an AC110 on one end and an AC50 on the other)? I've had circulation problems in my 36 which caused hair algae, so I'd like to avoid that this time around.

I have a Koralia nano in my 300litre, its fine, you could go bigger
