Among the other annoying things I hear at the LFS including "mummy look a Nemo and a Dora" (for god sake it's Dory) and "A stingray! That killed Steve Irwin", it took me a while to realize why there was the repetition of the phrase "dum dum" until I saw Night at the Museum. lol

(If it is real) The plant in the middle is non-aquatic and will be rotting away. Might want to whip it out before it ruins your water quality.

y do lfs sell these for tanks?

Because it makes money. From working in a LFS I know that these plants aren't actually specifically ordered. You order in a select number of plants, say 2 large boxes and you get what arrives. Pop them in the plant vat with the rest of the plants. I'd say 80% of the customers as well will choose the variegated plants over the normal aquatic plants anyway. So in theory, the customers are getting what they want.
