And I know you'll want photos, but I just got them and released them into my Q tank, so they're still very skittish. Very similar to the bloodfin, but has a more golden hue and a shiny lateral stripe from nose to tail. Also, there's a black spot just at the base of the tail. But same shape and size as the others. Ideas?

There's a few different species of bloodfin and it could just be a different one.

Hmm, got me curious on two counts, the real Bloodfins (Aphyocharax anisitsi) are like "gold dust" over here in the UK (as opposed to the common Glass Bloodfins, Prionobrama filigera) and I've no idea what you oddity contaminant is ( a stressed Aphyocharax rathbuni not showing its true colours is a very long shot, roughly cosmic sized!).

This may be the worst photo ever, but at least you can see it in comparison to the others. He's the shiny one. And no, the tank isn't dirty just freshly changed. You can barely see the black spot or vertical black stripe at the base of his tail.

Actually I think it might be a juvie Buenos Aires tetra. Thoughts?

Nah, now I don't think it is. The photos I saw of the B.A. didn't have the lateral stripe. Back to square one.

Hmmm, hard to tell from your picture, but to me it looks like a White Cloud Mountain Minnow. I have these myself :D
Does it look like this:

By jiminy I think you've got it. Now what do I do?? Don't these also belong in large groups?

Yes, I suggest you take it back and swap it for a Bloodfin Tetra or buy some more minnows for it to school with :)

Welllll ... I took all the bloodfins they had, and this little guy, by himself, was shoved in the mix. So they don't have any more of either kind. And, I'm not going to drive 100 miles for one fish. I think first I'm going to try and find someone nearby who might have some already and see if they want him. I wouldn't mind a whole school of them, but they're not that common around here. Dang.
