Hey all, couple of questions. How would the titled fish fair in a general community tank? containing the usual mollies, platies, swords, rams etc etc. I'm thinking of some for a general centre piece fish and ive heard/read that they are a pretty peaceful cichlid but how peaceful is peaceful?.

Also.....

How big would these get fully grown?, im sure ive read about 5 inches is this correct?.

Thanks in advance :)

Jake

Hi matey, should max out around 6" and IME they are very peaceful unless spawning, then they are more aggressive of course, otherwise, Ive kept them with bolivian rams, rainbows etc and would be fine in a large enough tank with the species you mention. If you get a group of them, they will argue amongst themselves as the establish a heirarchy and pair up, but generally they leave the other fish alone, unlike their cousins (if you like) the firemouth (Meeki).

I have a lone platy in with approx 20 Ellioti, did have a ram in there, they never bothered him. They are generally very peacefull even when spawning most of it is all show, unless they come accross someone that wont back down (bigger cichlids in my experience), I have 2 pairs formed in my frontosa tank (not actually spawned yet but lots of digging) They tend to show and flare rather than attack. Grow 5-6" lovely showy fish. Got plenty if you want to come and take a look

Thanks hun, just what i wanted to hear :), they will be going in a 48usg tank, which will only have about 6-10 other mixed general community. How many ellioti would you suggest?. I will probably remove whichever is left after a pair has formed but for now how many would be suitable?.
