Today I upgraded my operating system to Ubuntu 20.04 and upon entry to this site, unlike before which is strange, I was presented with a list of perhaps 500 different websites that it sends out our details to, a countless many of which require us to "opt out" so its there tracking you by default and yet it doesnt even given you the facility to opt out there and then nor does it give you instructions on how to opt out.

I agree - I had a look through the list the other day and it has grown exponentially since the last time I checked. I have offered / suggested on numerous occasions that I would be happy to pay a subscription to support the site rather than have the ads and associated tracking that goes with them. In the meantime I will continue with the adblocker and anonymising VPN. Hmmm - perhaps I should report myself as connecting from a different country every day, that should keep the covid-19 contact tracers busy

Now if someone could please help me turn off that <censored> FOTM banner that keeps taking me where I don't want to be when scrolling on my phone

That won't stop the site tracking you, it is your browser telling the site who / where you are. I used to use a program called Peer Guardian when I used Skype a long time ago and it blocked like tens of thousands of requests to snoop on me.

Heh heh. I am a rehabilitated software developer who spent a lot of time developing O/Ss, mobile apps and social media platforms for some of the biggest and baddest ...
Not deep enough into a black hole to attract unwanted govt attention but good luck trying to follow my digital footprints ;)

Well you could have just used TOR.

Had some 20 plus spam messages one day from a German company pop up right out of the blue, after a week I was rather unimpressed and upon receive the advice of a friend I looked up the Originating IP address and it was discovered it was from a hospital server in the USA, so I emailed the Germany company website host to complain about spam from the website it was hosting, added CC in the USA hospital and it stopped two days later.
