Hi

This place is amazing! I've read one post and the tank cycling link, and already I think I know more than tye teenager that sold me my tank!

I bought my tank on Wednesday., and was told that it would be ready for fish after three days! Nothing about testing or cycling or ammonia or anything! !

Anyhoo, glad I've found you, seems like a great place to be :)

Sarah

Thank you, Sarah, glad we've been of use to you :)

:hi: to the forum.

to TFF! Hope you enjoy it here.

Glad you've found this site and hopefully you can start your fish keeping on the right foot!

I was looking around because my tank has turned cloudy, it's a 64 panorama from PAH. I set it up as best I could tell - the instructions were for anither tank / filter! Ive added fine gravel and ornaments, , water and tapsafe liquid to the right dose.

I'm a bit disappointed to have to wait for the tank to cycle, but I want to do it right, and obviously don't want to harm any fish.

Im looking to have a mix of tiny fish - neons, harlequins etc. What others would you recommend, and how many could I have in a 64L tank?

Thanks

If you want to ask about stocking, Sarah, it would be best to start a thread in either the 'New to the Hobby' or 'Tropical Discussion' sub-forums, as you'll get more answers there (not everyone comes in here!).

It would be useful if you could post the dimensions of the tank and if your water is hard or soft :)

I will admit I am glad I found this place. Not only do people have great advice but great stories as well.
My family get sick of hearing me talk about fish (one reason I joined this forum). It kind of makes you feel like you have a fish "family". People who share your interests and can help you with questions or just admire what you do.
I hope you continue to love it!

Very true! I feel so alone when my six year old says to me "mummy why do we have all these fish tanks? There are too many!"

Welcome Sarah! My first tank was also a 64L from PAH and I was also considering harlequins and neons!
Both harlequins and neons are schooling fish and they like to be in large groups. They need an absolute minimum of 6 to each shoal and preferably 8-10.

You can get a rough idea of how many fish your tank can hold with the inches-per-gallon rule. In other words 1 inch of fish at their fully grown adult size per US gallon of water. Your 64L tank is about 17USG so you can have 17 inches of fish.

Harlequin Rasbora = 1.5 inches adult size x6= 9.6 USG
Neon Tetra = 1 inch per adult fish x8= 8 USG
Total for 2 shoals = 17.5 USG

So, a mix of 6 harlequins and 8 neons would fill your stocking for this tank.

Welcome!

I'm rather impatient generally and found it a tad difficult to wait for my tank to cycle. :[
Ended up rearranging things every day almost. :]
