As you see in my signature, I'm messed up enough.
For good reasons....

A: A website said dragon gobies could be kept with tetras because it was peaceful. That single line, out of all the info, got me to get it. Because i had a glow light i didn't want to die. And wow. It's brackish, and needs a lot more than 2 tbsp per gallon. Luckily, he's in great health.

B: Common pleco? Man. He's gonna be a trade in when he gets big....

C: I bought a RTBS for the 10 gallon cause he looked small and cool. Big mistake

So, after that, i returned the RTBS next day, obviously pissed. I didn't know about cycling. All petsmart said to do was run it 2 days, then throw 2-4 fish in and wait two weeks before adding more.

Duuurrr huuurrr. That's about 8 different tetra down the drain before i figured out why.
And i have to say. A month on here has transformed me.
I take someone to a fish store and they go "WOW" when i explain stuff i think should be simple now.
And it makes me remember what real beginers are like and why. It's usually not their fault.

MAIN topic that made me realize this.
There were about 100 juvy silver arowana at a store today. And wow. They were amazing. They so looked like they could fit in a 10 gallon. Had i been the newbie i had been starting off and saw them... I have to say, I'd have gotten one in a heart beat. But thiswebsite has saved such a tragedy. Seriously. They were amazing. About four feet. looked shiney. Awesome. $30. I totally would have gotten one alone for a centerpiece.... for a TEN GALLON!

Geeeesh. And the store would have convinced me it'd work and that i'd just need a larger tank later, not saying how much larger, as happened with my dragon goby.

Luckily, the dragon goby was kept with no salt at petsmart, so he's going better with 1 tbsp per 5 gallons, and the other mates don't mind for now. His gold sheen has become amazing...

And i will be getting a 40 gallon later on :)

It's just horrible though. Petsmart abuses newbies. And now i see how so. I mentioned tetras. Petsmart should have stopped me from getting the goby as that was obviously non-goby, but instead told me aquarium salt was okay for tetras.... And I mean... wow....

Now I know, HEAVILY reasearch... and ask here on the fourm before anything.
Even with heavy reasearch, you could get pulled into getting something like a dragon goby.
Too bad i didn't find this forum first :X

But now, the rule of thumb

See a fish you like? Write down its name

Heavy Reasearch

Ask on the fourm.

Rethink it, do a little more reasearch

Ask more questions here

Then buy.

The end.

Thank you all so much. You make things so much better ^_^

Edit: the 40 is going to become a tetra tank, with probably 7x cardinal, 7x neon, 7x black neon, and 7x glowlight, with 4-6x khuli, the pleco, flying fox, and dragon goby. Yeah... The pleco will get to big.... Then i either find someone to donate him to, Trade in at the lfs (i can get like, 20$ cred for him), or something. But I mean, wow.... Messed up. I'll have to use an ice chest to transport him XD

edit #2: The 10 gallon will probably become something for the betta and corries, and one more false flying fox (they're very nice). And then i'll keep the 1 gallon open for sick tetra, and if need be, those fish can be temporarily put in the 40 and use the ten for a sick plecy/dragon goby. It's the best i can due thanks to parential limitations. Otherwise i'd buy two 70's right now for the plec and dragon goby, and go full brackish/comminty with em....

Yes, we all are amazed with how much we have learned. But I could disagree with this part:

Make sure you get 5 replies from fish crazy and ups

Totally the wrong way to think. The post count does not matter. It's the person behind it that matters; I have seen people with a massive post count who are as dumb as a stick, and I also see people with less than 20 posts who are very knowledgable and very helpful. In my opinion, every post counts, and I would much rather receive one good post by a new user than 5 bad ones from unhelpful user with a large post count.
