hey i was wondering if a standard goldfish could go in a 10 gallon planted tropical fish tank... i dont know anything bout goldfish so this might be a dumb question

It's not a good idea. Goldfish can get pretty big & theyre also very messy.

I have done it, but now that I know more about them & such I don't think I would add another one to my tropical community.

As abe pointed out they are messy fish and get very big (if kept properly), i've had to get a 30g for my girlfriend as she has 2 black moors in a 15g at the moment and they will soon be too big for that.
With regards to the temperature, some goldfish can live in water up to 22 degrees, it all depends on which species/type.

I agree with the other posters. Goldfish are basically really cute waste factories

They need a lot of room to roam (and to poop!)

I'm not a goldfish keeper, but from what I've read over the months, goldfish need at least 10 gallons per fish, so since you have tropical fish in the tank (the point of the thread, hehe) then there is no room in the tank for a goldfish even if they could handle the temperature (which they can't). And as others have pointed out, they are poop machines, which wouldn't be good for your tropical fish. Bad for all the fish all around.

Sorry no. The goldfish would need a 20gall to itself never mind anything else.

Fancy goldfish are ok with warmer water (many do it by choice) but common ones are not.

No way. My friend who got his baby a fish tank has like 2 or 3 goldfish in a 5 gallon tank. That was too small, so he got a 10 gallon tank. *slaps forehead* still way too small especially for a messy fish, not to mention the temperature doesn't work.

Errr... to be honest bbg, I don't think you should be considering putting anything more in that tank.

10 gallon Freshwater planted
2 tiger barbs
2 rainbow sharks
1 glo-fish
1 angel
3 zebra danios

In fact, you should be looking to get the angel into a bigger tank and you should have only one rainbow shark per tank because they get very aggressive with their own kind.

Cheese Specialist is right. Ten gallons will do no favors to an angel and if the rainbow sharks are like other sharks sold for aquariums, they will get way too big for a 10 gallon as well.
