I just went to Maidenhead Aquatics and i've just seen this fish, it cost £1600 (roughly $3200), it was called (i think) super red arowana.

Anyone know why its so expensive. I've seen koi that costs this much but not tropical fish.

They're an endangered species and the only legal ones to keep are tank bred or were caught before it was made illegal to get them from the wild. IIRC, they're also chipped (as in microchipped) to assure they are legally aquired and kept. Given their size and difficulty in breeding, they aren't easy to aquire.

That explains it then. It was i nice looking fish though. They had another one but it was'nt a super one. this one was only 600.

which 1 did u go 2 the st albans 1 on the north obital? theres a pricey arowana in there i think its about £2500

Yep, thats the one i went to. The one i saw was £1600. Could'nt see any others although i remember seeing a real large fish as soon as you walk into the part where the fish are on sale.

I went into a fish store about a month ago and had an angler fish (saltwater) for $7000.

yh that huge display with the huge arowana and a ray in there aswell, im sure that was the one that was £2.5k

I'd love that tank in my front room. I'd maybe get a couple of oscars. Or maybe just keep what they've got in there, 2.5k though, a lot of money!!!

you would have to have to be mental and a very understanding wife to buy a fish that much just think when it dies you would have a nervous breakdown and go mental

dane

I wonder if they would give you your money back if it died from stress of moving tanks!!!

lol u would be suicidal, surely u could get insurance on a fish that much.
i was thinking with all these floods in england at the minute what about the people that have koi ponds and other expensive fish, what would they do about them swimming off?

Ouch!! Theres gonna be a lot of expensive koi floating somewhere arouund the north of england at the mo. That must be totaly soul destroying for those people who have spent thousands on these fish and the years to keep them.

I saw on the news about someone whose house flooded, there fish tank was the only thing that survived, but because there electric was cut off all there fish died. I suppose though, fish are going to be the least of there probems!!

The most expensive fish/invert that I know of so far is the Black and white maxima clam (Saltwater) at $369.00. I'm not sure if SW is more expensive than FW.
