hi all i just got back from a skewl camp anyway was reasearching this and was amazed sailfin mollys live in the brisbane river (near my house) its horrible though they say any found in the water must be killes hoe horrible anyway maybye i should see if i can find some....http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/fishweb/14272.html

sailfin mollies are native to central america and thus any found in your native Australian waters are a serious threat to the local ecosystem.

i'm sure the environmental authorities wouldn't mind you keeping any you find, though; they just want them out of the watersystem!

Bala's the Qld Government and the Enviromental Protection branch rightfully has classed swordies, platies and mollies and enviromental hazard fish, as an introduced species that can survive in low oxygen water that may also be of poor quality they are easily outdoing our native fish and they have become a major problem in the brisbane waterways. So if you want to go catch some some I'm sure premier beatie would be happy to let you keep them. The fact that they are in the local brissie water ways isn't so much of thing now, they are here and here to stay, the bigger thing is that their locality is limited to brisbane and suburbs. The Enviromental Protection Act stands (and states) that if any are found outside this area that the EPA should be informed as to what it was, where and when. Hope that helps.

Yup, sailfin molly, platy, sword tail and guppy are all classified as introduced species, and from a little research and reading, beloieve it or not, so is the Convict Chichlid! Mainly in Vic and NSW-Qld
