This Is Horrible

i just took a look at my topfin cycling guide which i got when i bought the topfin 20 gallon kit and it said that i need to put fish in and feed them to start cycling. woudlnt it be better to either put that bacteria starter with fish food or a shrimp from the store than putting fish throught the "bad" water?

Yep, but who'd buy a fishtank they could have nothing but a rotting shrimp in for 4 weeks+?
It is the way to go, but when you've got tanks to sell, it would put off an awful lot of potential customers. Fish in cycles can be done well, so if guidance on how to do them and 'suitable' fish was included, it would be a lot better.
