can loaches and discus live in the same aquarium. Because I am going to get a new tank really soon and I just want to know if they will live together. Thanks for the info.

Well I think it depends on what species of loach you want to get. Discus like higher temperatures .. like 82 - (I think) 86 F.

I have my temp at 82 and I keep kuhli loaches in my tank. Its recommended to keep it at 75-78 for the Kuhlis from what I read... but mine seem to be doing just fine at 82.

In the display tank at my lfs, they have a discus tank with gold weather loaches. I never looked to see what temperature the water was....

How big was the display tank at the fish store you were at. I'm looking at a 44g (kindda a diamond shaped if you look at the top of it. Probubly get something bigger though)thanx

You've still not said what kind of loaches!!

I would not put weather loaches/dojos in with discus incidently. Weather loaches are border coldwater fish and would not do well in that sort of tempature IMO/E.

the type of fish is the kuhli loach or the clown loach that is what I want and if that will work that is what I will get. Then i want to have lots of plants in the tank and a big shoal of black neon tetras(15 or so). And then the crown jeuwl. The king of the tank. Dun Dun Dun Dun!!!!!!!!!!! Two beutiful Discus!

I think that clowns or kuhlis will be fine with discus. Like I said.. I've got 3 kuhlis in with my discus. :)

I think they'd be fine too, but I'd be hesitant to put clowns in a 44g, PLUS a huge shoal of tetras, PLUS your discus. They get BIG and need to be in groups of 3.

The display tank at my lfs is a 46 g bowfront, but the discus are juvies. It's their growout tank. They get baby discus and grow them to a decent size to make sure they're hardy enough to take home.

I agree with what Parker said

Also, neons have problems living in water with high temperatures, which the discus require, so it would be wise to reconsider

Here is another almost identical active topic where Lateral Line has sumed things up well; http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=48128 . I have seen a few Botia species and other Loaches kept at the lower range of the Discus temps but they haven't looked to great, their activity levels is always down compared to normal. The only species I would say could live resonable well at the higher temperatures are Acantopis dialuzona and Pangio khulii.

I have neons in my discus tank and they do just fine. The highest I keep the water tho is 84. Right now its lower cause we had a heat wave and the temp in my tank was getting a little too high. :/ Not trying to disagree or anything... just saying that I do it and they are perfectly fine :)

well I had a heat wave just the other day to probubly for about four days. The temp in the tank was at a whitch melting 90F. My fish were yelling I'm melting I'm melting,
