so i woke up this morning and couldn't find two of my 6 platys and discovered that one of my red platys had its head trapped under a bit of wood somehow and the other one was not moving in some plants.

So i released the red one from the wood and to my surprise it was still alive and moving except it couldn't maintain its balance and kept ending up upside down, and the other one was also alive yet had the same problem, she did however manage to swim to the surface, only to sink back down with no resistance to it whatsoever. I didn't want them to suffer so euthanasia it had to be in ice cold water with ice cubes. :(

So i have had a bout of internal parasites with helpful diagnosis from wilder :) but i had treated this only a week ago with 'sera nematol'. It says on the instructions to treat for 2 days then do an 80% water change (which i did) and then i backed it up with Interpret no:9 anti-bacteria.

All fish looked in good health pooing normally and everything which makes it even more shocking, now they are pooing white poo thin and thick, sometimes it looks like clear globules of poo, so i suppose i should treat again. Would these fish have been more suseptible to dieing if they were being bullied, i noticed these two were, one by a male and the other a female.

Sorry for the long ramble :(

STATS

AMMONIA-0ppm
NITRITE-0ppm
NITRATE-0ppm

23 gallon, but really 85 litres minus substrate and an inch from the top.

STOCKING
4 platys 6 peppered corys 1 neon tetra

if its heavily planted then yes..... maybe they were just weak fish and the double meds took there toll on them.... but white stringy poo does point the finger towards worms or internal probs. sorry cant be of anymore help! have you contacted wilder? :good:

yeah maybe well because the symptoms seem to be rearing there ugly heads again i have decided to dose again with the sera nematol which wilder pointed me to in the first place. Hopefully should help again. No worries mattlee its good to talk :D

Does it say in the instructions if you have to retreat again.

Swim bladder can be caused by internal parasites, Also internal parasites can cause bacterial infections.

Once the fish is infested with the internal worms the damage has been done.

A good way of knowing the med has worked is that the fish usually start to gain weight.

Well i have just come back from work now and i have another platy seemingly headed for fishy heaven, as it is just lying on its side unable to swim :( what should i do, get rid of her? yeh it does say check within next 3 weeks for unhatched eggs or something but have already redosed now.

Poor thing.
Let me know how things go after the second round of treatment.
Also feed some frozen shelled peas.
Some meds can make fish abit constipated.

If shes still not able to swim tomorrow i will take her out. The thing i cant understand is i have 2 black neon tetra in a quarantine tank which seemed to be the worse off, i also treated them with sera nematol, and they have lasted longer than all the others!!! even though they had the worse symptoms. ????

I do feed them de-shelled peas every now and then but will do so more often now, i also feed them frozen daphnia, but the main staple is flake food.

Thanks wilder willl let you know how it goes. Internal parasites is like a cruel curse :(

Another red platy died today, i now have 2 female platys and 6 corys.

It seems they symptoms, are white stringy or even clear poo, then eventually imbalance when swimming then unable to swim altogether like they are paralised or something, and just moving with the flow of the filter. And finally death.
:/

Let me know when the second treatment is up.
The only other meds available are from a vet.

Ok i will do, i have been feeding more peas like you said, and they've been pooing light green poo now lol which alarmingly a neon tried to eat  i had to stop him by droppin gsome flake food at the top which he went zapping to leaving the poo, thank goodness

LOL.
Just hope the meds working. I have never used it so really need members to say if it worked.

Let me know if the second dose works.
I have some flubenol in the cuboard. Don't need it anymore as only have one cory fish left. He's old.
I will send you the med free. Just need to check the med not out of date.

You can't buy flubenol you need a vet percription now.
