Thanks Scotty! I'll have another look tonight, the krib became more active last night whilst I was in bed watching the tank - typical, I didn't have my camera to hand! But I am getting more and more convinced that it is a male.... finger crossed eh? :p I am dying to have baby kribs!

I think it is a male and if you get him a female a little smaller than he she will be very very happy with yor choice for her as he has a good colour to him, im sure that very soon after you introduce them they will get "Busy"

You will need to make sure you have a few hiding places and caves / plant post for them to spawn in, i peronlally have coconut caves wth jav moss on the top.

You will know when they have had a little nookie as the female will disapeer for almost a week into one of the caves and will not show herself again till she pops out with 30+ fry swimming around her, when she is in the cave the male will stand guard round the small entrance and heven forbid anything that gets too close, he will give chace but ive never seen my male harm anything,

The when the fry come out with the female the male will also spend as much time looking after the fry as the female and the java moss on the cocnut cave will also provide little hidy pplaces and feeding ground for the lil ones.

hope t all gooes well for you !!! My kribs spawned a month ago and unfotunatly there are only 4 left but there getting to a good size now.

I will also mention that it can take a few attempts for the adult kribs to produce fry, some times if theyre new they may at them but after 2 / 3 attempts they get the right iidea and do v v well.

:) I have 2 females, both are a little smaller and both are really vibrant looking.... I just can't decide which one to introduce him to first! I'm sure he will like the look of one of them :p

with kribs it isnt as much as him liking her its her liking him, in their world the women def wear the trousers and if she dont like him she will let him know. its only if he is much much bigger that he may do the most of the "leave me alone chasing"

Both my females are feisty little cows, so he'll need a huge dose of luck... :p

I've had to separate them because whoever establishes territory first will then really bully the other - both have done it now so I give up!

So, do you have pics to help me or someone varify male or female? I would guess a more established krib would look better, help sexing it, if i ever have problems, i always wait a few days before returning as i give it time for me to figure out what it is.

New krib is slowly showing himself a bit more but legs it whenever I get my camera out! Will keep trying.... unfortunately the coconut cave I popped in to make him feel a bit more secure has now become a favourite place to peek out of whenever the camera is out! :p

At last, pics! Here he is....

I am still convinced this is a male, to the point where I introduced him to one of my females last night. they seemed to get on great, both really coloured up and started circling each other and vibrating. My girl was almost purple coloured, and this new one was pretty red bellied, but the redness seemed to be a spot a bit further back, wheras my female's whole belly was coloured. Also, the 'male' seemed to go quite dark at the top near his dorsal fin. What do you think? Problem is, a few hours later the 'male' was chasing the female off and she lost her colour with fright. Is this to be expected? He has had most of the tank to himself until now, just sharing with two hyperactive giant danios....

looks like another female to me, cos it has rounded fins and the pink belly. u need to get 1 with fins that come to points.
I t may just be me though

eric

It;s the rounded fin that worries me too... but he/she is just so long in the body compared to my females.... hmmm, will wait for a few more opinions, am going the LFS in a few hours and need to decide whether to return this fish.....

i would say male too as it is v long in the body and doesnt have the rounded plump belly as well as the dorsal fin looks to be startig to swoop up and away and isnt as rounded as the female would be. I have 4 males and they all have a pinkish belly too it js doesnt get as vibrand and deep deep pink as the females.

Well he/she had bullied my poor Spot and she was hiding constantly and white with fear, so the fish was returned today. i got another krib, this one, as well as being large and long in the body, has a definite pointy fin so I think I have it right this time! No pics yet cos he has gone to hide in a coconut cave :p

Well, if you didnt take that krib back i was definatley voting male, his body is too long to be a female.

LOL! Well he has already been returned now... the new male seems to get on better, he is not bullying Spot and she is staying in full colour. He is preferring to stay in the coconut cave for now so still no pics!
