Not the best pic yeah but he has only just arrived and is a bit skittish. Please confimr that I did indeed pic a male krib - he seems torpedo shaped to me, compared to my females, but I didn't know that male kribs got a coloured belly.....

I have not got much experience, but i would suggest I think that is a female, Males do get pink, but not generally to that degree, and the the Dorsal fin looks rather rounded at the end. As far as I am aware the males are more pointed and the colour runs right to the end.

Please do not take my word for it though, wait for someone more experienced to answer
Becks.

Uh-oh. That's kinda what I was thinking about the dorsal fin. I think I might be going back to the lfs tomorrow :S Last thing I need now is ANOTHER female krib!

Like I say i have not been keeping them long, so wait for someone with more experience to answer, I am sure they will in due course.
I just wish mine would get along !! LMAO although I have one pair which seem to be getting more LOVIN !! :hyper:

Can you get another picture? It looks like a female from that pic, but it's deathly skinny. I cannot confirm until i get a good shot of it swimming around. The thing that leaves me to belive it a male is the blue bottom fins, that usually indicates male.

I'll try to get a better pic asap. This krib is definitely long in comparison to my females.... :S

Took this one before too.... is this any good?

:) It's driving me mad, not knowing! This fish just looks male to me anyway, regardless... sounds daft I know, but his head seems male! :p

Oh no!

well i will wait for more replies overnight and if the general consensus is female I will return her and try harder to get a male!

Please tell me more things to look for - I know I am looking for longer less rounded body. plus pointed dorsal fin. What else???

Males: Torpedo Body. Long flowing fins. Lighter colored.
I really want to say its a male, but cant becasue some characteristics remind me of a female! ARGGHHH, My brain hurts.

He/she is hiding again but I will try for a better pic today. This means I have to keep the fish for another week anyway as I can't get back to the LFS due to work. And i go on holiday in a few weeks and don't want to have any new fish quarantining whilst I am away, so it looks like it would be best for me to keep the krib till my return at the beginning of June, and make a definite decision then as to whether to return it. Hopefully after a month of good care it will become more obvious as to the sex!

I would say it was a male, judging by its dorsal fin, the degree and the way it swoop up as well as what looks to be a pointed caudal fin. looks to be showing good colour, he shouldnt have any probs being accepted by a female.

Edit , Take a look at this LINK the second set of pics which as 3 pics of kribs, the 1st pic is of a male and female, the male being closest, the males dorsal fin has much more of a swoop pointing upwards and the Caudal fin (tail fin) is much more pointed as seen in the 2nd pic f the kribs, the female in the next pic down you can see not so much of a swoop and the Caudal fin (Tail fin) is much more rounded and she has a fatter plumper rounded belly where as the male is more torpedo shaped (best seen in the 1st pic, the 2nd pic of the pair is a little misleading as looks like has been shrunk a little that makes the male look plumper.

if you compare your krib to these pics (provided by MURRAY) you should be able to tell yourself if yu have a male or a female.
Hope this helps a little.
Scott

Thanks Scotty! I'll have another look tonight, the krib became more active last night whilst I was in bed watching the tank - typical, I didn't have my camera to hand! But I am getting more and more convinced that it is a male.... finger crossed eh? :p I am dying to have baby kribs!
