hard to tell without a clearer picture of the belly. it could be a macho female, or a young male. that anal fin looks suspiciously pointy.

nice spadetail nevertheless though!

its possible, I would condition her in site of a male, see if she gets eggy or drops eggs. its the only 100% way to tell male from female, as I have seen some very femmine males and very manly females.

the Anal fin does look pointy, is it a young fish? more pics would help

I have no idea how old he/she is I got her from a pet store. she does have a white dot that sticks out on the bttom of her body. I read that it means she is a girl is that true. I wish my camera wasnt so crappy because I only get fuzzy pictures

most times the females have the white spot on the belly, however a male I have spawned, and another male my sister spawned both had white spots too.

I took your advice newfishy and I placed her by the tank that the male is in. Idk 10 minutes later she had gotten larger in the belly. She is flaring at him and he is flaring back. Now e hasn't attempted to make a bubble nest ever. I have planned on breeding them for about three weeks now. Shoul he have started to make one ever. Is it possible he doesn't know what to do? What could the problem be?

the fish might not be well conditioned enough, there could be too much filter current in the tank, the water might be very hard and that makes bubble nests not stick as well.

You know what I just tested the water the other day and I do not have hard water but it does have a high current. I have no idea how to slow it down. I turned my filter down so its not as strong but it still makes the water very flowy. its a wisper 10 filter and i don't know how to stop the water from moving so fast any ideas? I do not have money to get a sponge filter nor do I want another filter.

pantyhose over the filter inlet. i have the same filter.

also, block the outlet w/ something to try to disperse the current a bit if you still think it is too strong. a few layers of pantyhose works wonders though.

I use filter floss. You can buy it from craft stores as teddy bear stuffing really cheaply. Put it inside a twist of pantyhose so the fibres don't escape into the tank.

In the first photo the fish looks like she has vertical bars on her. These appear on females to show interest in breeding. So my guess would be female but I have to agree with everyone else, the anal fin is very long and pointy even for a VT female.

What kind of male would it be if it is a male? I really do think it is a female because she does get fat when she sees sam and she does get vertical lines every once and a while. here is a picture of him. It was the first time that they saw eachother
