I have had my 5.5gallon desk top going for just over a year now wish small pebbleish gravel/substrate I was wondering if it is possible too putt plants in now an what I would need too do so

Yes, of course you could add live plants

Pick nice easy ones; Java fern (you can get a few different leaf shapes nowadays too; trident, narrow leaved or windelov), Java or Christmas moss, moss balls, anubias or cryptocorynes would all be suitable for your little tank (there are lots of other easy plants, but they might get a bit big!)

Unless you have shrimps, you can just put them straight in. The Java fern and the anubias do better if they're attached to some rock or wood, as they don't like their rhizome (the thick 'stalk' that the roots and leaves both grow from) being buried.

I don't know what the laws are in Canada, but if you have shrimps, you might need to check up, as some countries insist that imported plants are treated with an insecticide.

I don't have too add nothing too my substrate just buy some clean them up an put them in my tank or as u said attach them too a rock or piece of wood

No, all those plants don't need anything at all added to the tank

A wash is a good idea, as most plants have snail eggs on them!
