ok, I have been looking a Cichlids, but havent been satisfied with what i have found, so now ill try Gouramis. Heres my setup:

29 Gallon Tank:
-9 Cardinal Tetras
-4 Harlequin Rasboras
-3 Swordtails (2 normal sized, 1 only 1cm at 9 months, so imagine he'll stay small)

I also have an empty 10 gallon tank for fry, because I realllllllly want babies.

How many and of what kind of Gouramies will be a nice addition to this tank.

Note: Right now I have the 9 Cardinals in the 10 gallon, and a Chinese Algae Eater in the 29, but I plan on changing this around by the time i get the new fish. CAE will be taken back to the store.

THanks

some gouramis can be quite agressive and territorial, so choose carefully. I have 2 pearl gouramis and they are very pretty. I would recommend them personally

A Little Info On Dwarf Gouramis

Dwarf gouramis require a mature tank. They are also prone to bacterial infections, constipation and hole-in-the-head problems. So regular water changes are essential. When the fish arrive at the petshop they are usually not in very good condition. Most Dwarf Gouramis that arrive at the petshop are carrying a virus DGIV (Dwarf gourami iridovirus ). The viruss causes lethargic behaviour, darken of colour, tumours and can lead to death within a year. The virus is also believed to be able to infect other fish like Swordtails and Mollies, possibly cichlids. There is no treatment for the virus.

Male Dwarf Gouramis can become territorial, they develops a deep purple chest and flare up there dorsal fin when floating plants and a female are introduced. Otherwise it's an excellent community fish. Dwarf gouramis like all other Gouramis, and Bettas are a labyrinth fish, in that they have a special organ that allows them to breath air. So they can survive in low oxygenated water. If they are not allowed access to the air then they drown. Do not keep a mix of Gourami species together, nor keep Dwarf Gourami with other anabantoids such as Betta splendens as this will bring out their aggressive side. Also, do not keep with other aggressive species such as Cichlids.

How easy are Pearl Gouramis to breed? I have read a bit on them just now. Also, I need to know how many I could fit in my tank.

I have a male dwarf powder blue gourami ive had for 6 months called Mr Banana and he is awesome! He is a real character and in charge of the tank! Lives happily with black phantom tetras. zebra dannios, platys, guppies german blue rams, panda corys and a bristlenose plec!
