hi im thinking bout going marine and have a quick question. my misses has decided that she likes the look of marine tanks and said if we was goin to go marine that instead of using the rio 125 that i originaly brought for the project that i could have a 6x2x2 tank. wat would be the best filtration on this would jsut live rock be alright or would i need something like a 4ft sump.

I do not run a sump with my tank and it sees ok, thats a big tank to start with :good: only problem is, what do you upgrade to in the future, because no matter what size tank i have i always want a bigger one

Depends, are you going with a FOWLR setup, or a Reef setup?

have you looking into the cost of LR for a tank that size? its gonna be ALOT of money!
i would assume you are thinking reef set up (to be honest it would be a bit pointless having an amazing tank like that and only having a FOWLR setup :/)

but like SkiFletch asked which one? FOWLR would be fine without a sump where as i would advice one with a reef system.

Live rock is fine

You will need about 75kg for a tank your size

A sump isn't essential but if you can get the tank drilled I'd go for it

I would also get a Protein Skimmer and you will need some circulation pumps

Tunze streams are good

The lighting you need depends on what you intend to keep in the way of corals

The issue with hardware is that it's hard to say what you need until you have a full list of the live stock you which to keep. It's impossible to have a system that works for all marine creatures, so choose what you want to keep then spec the system around them :good:

thanks for all the info would prob end up being a fowlr and eventually once everyhting has settled go down the full reef route
