This hobby is frustrating me. No matter how attentive and meticulous I am, it is always something. I just drove to the worst part of brooklyn to get a co2 tank refill, then I get back only to have my diffuser crack. Who needs this ??? Now I have to wait for delivery, as no diffusers are sold local, and I have to screw around with the flourish excel product when I have rams and riccia in my tank. Anyway, just venting. I also crack my faucet adaptor/nozzzle for my python every other week.

While I don't do plants at all, there are many ways of getting around using cO2 in a planted tank, and I'm sure there are ways of rigging a diffuser if you do feel the need to run cO2. Probably my only complaint about Python products is the use of plastic, and the quality of the plastic pieces.

Seeing this long ago I thought it out, got some metal pieces from the hardware store, and started running plain hose. There may be a way to retrofit your Python with more sturdy pieces found in the article here.

And you're in NY, which has everything. At least you can get a refill. If I purchased the equipment for CO2 in Miami, they'll think I'm trying to blow something up and try to arrest me. So now you know why I do low tech when the tank is big and fermentation CO2 when the tank is small! To add to my pitiful situaion, the largest aquatic nursery is literally at my doorstep, yet I cannot get plants there because they don't sell to individuals. So, I have to order from Robert Hudson in Oregon or Aquaticplants.com in Canada and guess where they get their plants from??? The nursery in South Florida. :S If that isn't pitiful, I do not know what is!

We all have our frustrations with the hobby. :friends: Feel free to vent at any time.

Just go low tech.
<1WPG of light, nutritious substrate, lots of plants, few water changes a year. Easy peasy ;)
Keep the hobby up, I'm sure something will crop up that will make you glad you kept at it.

Oh, you don't even need the good substrate. I get by with sand. I just dose through the water column. It is still easy peasy. Love my low-tech.
