I would like advice on the Black Moors, i have read up on the net but as yet cant find the info im after,
will a single Black Moor be happy, or do they need tank mates?
My spare tank is just big enough to keep one but would be pushing it to put in two.

How big is your tank? I understand it's best to allow 20 gallons for the first fish and a futher 10 gallons minimum for each additional fish :)

I'm in the middle of planning a tank for 1 (maybe 2) oranda and maybe a black moor too. The tank I have in mind is 40 gallons :D

black moors are a variety of fantail goldfish that grows to about 6inches (body size). They do well in warm water. They are fine in cold water too but when it gets really cold (below 10C) they can have a few issues. They also do well on a varied diet including lots of vegetable matter, but also some prawn or fish added. Keep the PH of the tank slightly alakline (about 7.4) and with a medium hardness (about 200ppm).

Its only a 10G.
Would this be ok short term until the fish grows and i get a bigger spare tank.

i had kept fancy goldfish, it was the worst start that i had to fishkeeping, i hadnt the space, they are huge fish!, even though they seem nice, they are prone to disease and especially in a tank that small you will have many deaths, as to answer your fist Q, they will be fine on their own, they dont neccesarily need tank mates, they dont shoal so it doesnt really matter, my advice is dont get one, keep tropicals, they are easier to keep when you get the hand of it, all you need is a heater, they make less mess, are more colourful and there is more of a choice

A 10gallon tank is fine for a couple of small (less than 2inch) goldfish. However, they will require a bigger home when they grow, probably in a year or so.
Goldfish are easy enough to keep. The main problems being water quality and dirty tanks. If you do regular partial water changes and gravel cleans, then they shouldn't have any problems. Also feeding them a varied diet will make a huge difference.

Good for you :good: A 10Gallon would work for them when they are small but they will need to get a bigger tank when they grow. I own a pair myself and I love them to death.
