Thinking Of Getting A Bolivian Ram

Well recently I've seen some really beautiful bolivian rams in my LFS and I was thinking of buying one in the next few days. I have an aquarium pH of 6.1-6.2 at a temperature of 77-78 degrees Farenheit. It is a 25 gallon planted, Co2 ladder injected tank that currently holds:

1 young angel
5 rummy nose tetras
5 cardinal tetras
1 honey sunset gourami
4 emerald bronchi (corys)
1 oto

Would the ram be compatitible with my current fish and are the water stats ok for it?

yeah, i'd go for it if i were you.

The ram will be compatible with the others and the stats are fine as well. You will get more interesting behavior and colors if you can get a pair. The rams really color up when they are thinking about breeding. That being said as youngsters they are very difficult to sex, very difficult.

I want to get a pair but how big will they grow and will they be aggresive towards the young angelfish and vice-versa. Thanks for the advice guys.

Hi,

Bolivians grow to about a maximum of 3" so not too big and should be fine with the angels, bolivians are not usually aggressive, they are quite laid back, mine are.

I've got a pair but it is hard to sex them when they are young so its difficult to get a male and a female.

K thanks robin. The workers at my LFS also said that they are hard to sex when they are young. Plan to buy a pair on Wednesday and hope for the best=)

as said the rams will be fine in ur tank. they get to about ~8cm including the tail. they will only chase the angelfish when spawning. i keep mine with angelfish and the rams spawn regularly. havent had any issues. angelfish tend to stay more towards the top of the tank and rams at the bottom which probably helps. rams are fairly incapable of doing any damage to other fish anyway, they just chase them away.
