Hi all....

I'm not sure whether you have Lidl in the Uk, but they are selling this tank next Monday:

http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.2...icalAquariumSet

Its an 84L (22Us gal) and its €79.99 (£70 approx)

I currently have my little 37.5L (10gal) tank and I have it on top of my kitchen worktop....this tank would fit there perfectly as its the same width it just a bit longer yet it would be twice the volume of my current tank giving me better stocking scope.

What do you think...does it look like a good purchase?

The price is not too high but is more than I would expect in the US. A 25 gallon tank is definitely more versatile than a 10 gallon so it would be nice that way. Are you confident that the place you wish to put the tank can hold at least 100Kg? By the time you add the glass and gravel, that is what you are going to be looking at.

Hi, yes we do have Lidl in the Uk.

They often pick on a topic and feature a load of cheap stuff for it. Personally I think the price is a little much for what is basically a cheap, unbranded tank, heater and filter. The rest is only worth 'pennies'

Things to consider are, if the filter or lights go wrong are there replaceable parts available? The heater is a throw-away thing if it goes wrong anyway.
Also, enquire about Lidl's guarantee procedure should things go wrong in the first year when they no longer stock the item. As this item is supplied as a set what would they do if one component goes wrong.

Personally, for that money there must be a better bargain to be had on the second-hand market.

Well thank you very much for the input....I really appreciate that and haven't actually thought of all that at all!!!

Yes, the weight of the tank is a real consideration. I'd say it would be fine, but then, I wouldn't be too sure. I'd always be anxious.

And the point about the about replacements for those 'unknown' branded parts & guarantees etc is VERY valid!

Thanks, I think I'll give it a miss so. I was also concerned that once I'd buy this one, I'd only want a bigger one anyway in quite a short while, so really the best thing would be to put money to it and get the one I actually want!

I'll start looking out for a second hand larger tank and proper stand/cabinet set up in the New Year.

Cheers!

My second tank was £ 99 from pets at home.. its 100 L i got it at this price because it was discontinued, so keep your eye out for bargains as i couldnt resist this one..
It came with a Magi jet filter and A light and the proper cabinet for it to stand on. The filter wasnt as good as the one i later purchased at just under £20 and thens theres the heater and decorations...

The extras with a total set up sometimes arent suitable.

Good luck anyway

I have a 30 US gallon tank upstairs in my room. It weighs over 100kg when full. It's not so much of a problem for the floor, afterall it's just like a fat person being stood there. One thing you must consider however is that stand on which it will sit.
It's not too bad a deal.

Well actually I have a 15g right next to it, so I have at least 170kg positioned in an area of less than 5 square feet.
