Hey all,Im thniking of breeding bettas again.I got this lovely plakat from the lfs.So just wondering if my 'stratagy was any good about housing the males. My stratagy:

buy lots of 1ft tanks and split them into 4.I know they will only have 3inch of room to turn round in but it will be for as little time untill i sold them, plus they will still be small.I will do water changes everyday.I will put a heater in them so the temp is at a constant temperature.I will breed in a 1ft tank and feed liove foods such as bloodworm and bs.I will have a 2ft tank for the female fry.Does this sound good?I will feed the babies microworms.

 We said before that you really need to go and research everything. From an exceptional spawn you could end up with over 200 males let alone females. You will find it hard to find homes for all those in a short space of time.

1. 3 inches of moving room is definitely not enough without sufficient needs.
2. I doubt people are actually going to buy a lot from you if they don't look nice
3. People never really to even seem to do their research before first time breeding so getting them to adults is a doubt to me.
4. 2ft is small for the amount of females that can potentially be raised. Just because keeping them with another female companion doesn't result in death doesn't mean it wont if everythings' too cramped.
5. Of course they'll be small considering you are stunting their growth in tank spaces of 3 inches to each male if you don't know how to keep them there properly
6. Why don't you decide to even start think about breeding bettas AFTER you've actually done research so these silly questions will not have to be asked, get the financial needs you're going to have to be using, and maybe actually breed some fish you can handle first before you move onto bettas.

EDIT: && from reading your response in another post. You dont even know how to seperate the difference between a plakat male and female. How do you expect to seperate them when you spawn yours? Considering you actually plan to get a breeding quality plakat female. If you're actually going to spawn, at least figure out how to tell the sexes apart so you don't end up with something like a 5:1 male to female ratio in your 2ft tank you're wanting to use.

&&revised because my first post was too mean. sorry

wow, i belevie he is trying to do his reaserch now.

have any of you seen how they raise bettas in Thailand? 3 inches is enough, i dont think it will stunt the growth, what will is not giving proper water changes.

there are ways of keeping you spawn count to a reasonable numbers. and trust me on you 1st spawn your not going to get 200+ babys.

if they looked decent he could probably sell them, at least give them away.

separating the diference in plakats is HARD. i have 5 months old pks that just wont decide.

what is a 2 ft tank? 20 gallons? 30 if its tall? that should be fine for a small amount of fry (20)

i do agree he needs to research thou

I KNOW HES PROBABLY NOT THE SMARTEST GUY WANTING TO BREED BETTAS! BUT COMMON PEOPLE HELP HIM OUT INSTEAD OF PUTTING HIM DOWN!!

we would have alot more betta lovers out there if they wernt all scared away!

ps this is not an attack on anyone, just would like to see people being helped!

I wasn't trying to be THAT mean but like, same person, same topic, same questions and stuff. But in Thailand im sure the people using the 3 inches of moving space have much more experience and techniques that people don't even know about and yeah seperating plakats are hard but if you didn't know how to in the first place how would you even have like a little chance of seperating them in the future?

yeah separating plakats are hard expesially when there young, but theres only 1 way to learn for sure and thats trial and error. trust me you can look at 1000 pics on the net, but when if comes down to it and what you beleive to be a female pk starts makeing a bubble nest and them shows vertical stripes at the same time and then you other pk flares at everything, but has and ovi you dont know what to think.

all im saying is why not encourage ppl like him to do it the wright way. because when it comes down to it hes going to do what he wants and theres nothing we can do to stop him, only edjucate!

my best advice to you Hoddy is to keep the spawn small my throwing all but 20 eggs away and then you can go from there. And prepar to have live foods avalable and lots of free time.

thanks,Ive been doing research for ages on breeding bettas and other fish, but bettas seem to be my favourite but the worst in ways for breeding. If you can suggest any other fish apart from bettas please let me know.I would just love to bred a fish unlike livebearers were there is practicaly no work done at all.I would buy jars if i did breed them but im in england so it would be to cold. The only way is to buy tank and divide them into small bits.
