now i have upgraged my tank to a much bigger one i thought of adding a little something extra, its a comunity tank with one betta so has to be compatible with him, i thought of either bamboo shrimp or cherry shrimp or a small sholl of something....but what? my tank is 48x 19x18 inches and has 6 cherry barbs 1 male swordtail 5 ammanos 6 khulis 4 corys 1 betta 2 glass fish, it looks empty so what to choose that would be ok

What kind of glass fish are they? You might to well to get more of them (both the Indian glass fish and glass cats are shoalers)

A shoal of something non nippy might be nice. Harlequins, or ember tetras (if your betta's blue) or green neons )if your betta's red)?

they are small see through fish, like ghosts, they were advertised as glass fish, but you cant see them even when looking right at them LOL, might get a few more if they prefer that and of course if i can find any, my betta is red pink and blue

If they're sort of 'normal' fish shaped, then they'll be the Indian glassfish; if they look more like a mini black ghost knifefish, with two long whiskers, then they're glass cats :good:

If you're betta's multi coloured, then go with the shoaler you like best! Pretty much any of the rasboras, or slim bodied tetras (it tends to be the deeper bodied tetras, like serpaes and black wdidows that are the nippy ones) should go well in your tank.

are harliquins the ones that look like they have a lamb chop on their sides as ive googled them and several different pictures came up

yes they have long whiskers so are the glass cats :good:

Yes, that's the ones. There are a two or three different species, some being slightly smaller than others, but they're all very good community tank fish; hardy and well behaved.

Definitely get a few more of those, if you can, as well then; they do much, much better in larger groups :good: I've only started keeping them in the last year and they're very lovely; one of my very favourite fish :)

A pair of gouramis? Not sure how they would be with the male betta, but maybe the female would keep the male quiet. Id up your glass cats to 6.

Hmmm, why not say a dozen cardinal tetras? I have about 40 and they look amazing in my tank following each other everywhere.

It's not really recommended to mix gouramis and bettas, Jay. They're very closely related and can fight.

Cardinals would be nice, or my fav, green neons (they're really blue though).

Thats what I was thinking. Just wondering if they'd be similar to male Apistos, much more sedate when theres a female around, haha.
