If you're thinking of donating or selling any of your fishes, please remember the 'Golden Rule', ask questions.

Recently, I had decided to sell some of my fishes so advertised in my companies Bulletin Board. Hi-lighting that my aim was to sell only to experienced fish-keepers, I soon had a response from a prospective fish-keeper.

Not going on 'first looks', I decided to pose some questions.

Guess what? The bozo said he'd come back to me, and hasn't. Time waster, why'd he even bother?!

One idea i came up with after i read this post, when selling fish, use technical and scientific names, ie. for a pearl gourami you would write Trichogaster leeri. So if someone does ring you about, atleast they know what fish your rtalking about, and have some knowledge about it too know its scientific name.

Yea but I've kept fish off and on for over 20 years and I don't know any scientific names. Heck, Oscars are by far my favorite and I've raised at least 15 from under 2 inches to over ten inches... and all I know is the name is long and starts with an A. I don't want to be a fish scientist... I just want to watch my fishes grow up!

I say give them to someone on the board, or repost the listing on the board more like this:

6XBRACHYDANIO FRANKEI

Free to whomever can tell me what that is. :p

Yes, but if I was interested, I'd google the name. Heck, the only latin name I know is Aphysemion Australe.

i usually ask how long theyve been keeping fish and what fish and what expereince they have, if theyre newbies its a no sale
