I'm thinking about getting some Blue Rams for my 29 gallon tank. As of right now I have a PH of 6.6 and 6 or 7 degrees of hardness, zero ammonia and zero nitrites. Their tankmates will be 6 platies, 6 red-tail rasboras and a big, solitary male pearl danio.

I've heard they are difficult fish that are very sensitive to water parameters, how true is this and do you guys think they would fare well in my tank.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I just re-tested my water for hardness and it appears that it is 3 degrees or about 53ppm....so that's pretty soft compared to what I used to have.....should Rams do good here?

My water is pretty hard and my german blue ram is doing very well. Make sure you acclimate him or her very carefully and slowly and has somewhere to hide. Your ram should be fine.
:D

I always take my time acclimating anything, even Platies. I drip acclimate in a bucket for, oh, usually about 2-3 hours.

Rams are sensitive and need good clean water, but they are not as sensitive as most people make them out to be. Your water parameters sound pretty good but also remember that rams ARE cichlids and can be aggressive so you'll need to keep your other tankmates in mind. If the rams become to aggressive, you may need to remove them.

Thank you. I do have a bit of limited experience with cichlids as I have kept Kribs and, from what I have heard anyway, Rams are a lil more peaceful than those. thank you for the advice, I think I'll pick up some rams this week and update how they do.
