Hey all,

I currently have a 38L tank with a few mollies and platies and am tempted to make it brackish.

I've been reading up on the whole Mollies and salt thing for a while now and have decided to try out adding a little marine salt to make my tank brackish, as I have tried hardening my water with crushed limestone but it did not seem to make much difference.

Will the Platies be OK with a slightly brackish set up? (SG 1.003)

If I do turn brackish, will the freshwater plants I currently have tollerate the salt if its steadily added?

Platies will be fine at SG 1.003; indeed, most livebearers will do well at this salinity.

As for the plants: most hardwater tolerant plants will tolerate this level of salinity. There's a good pinned topic in this forum; look it over, and see if the plants you have are among them.

Cheers, Neale

Wow thanks for the quick reply. I'll check out the plant list now.

Thanks again!
