Hello all!

I've been considering getting an aquarium for a while, but have only recently made the decision to move forward with it.

I'd like to go with a tropical freshwater tank, and after some browsing around a few online stores - I'm thinking about the Rekord 60 aquarium. It's 54 litres capacity (Size: 61 x 36 x 31 cm).
Would this be a good tank to at least start out with? I'd rather not replace it for a couple of years if possible, so the fish'll have to make do with the space available for the time being.

I've read through the "not for newbies" thread, and have done a little bit of research and have found a couple of different species that I think would work well. Can anyone advise? Any other suggestions will be hugely helpful, as well as any good aquatics centres in SW London.

Rainbowfish
Mickey Mouse Platys
Zebra Danio

Thanks in Advance!

Those dimensions are about 60l or more :).
I wouldn't go for raindbow fish, they get a bit big.
Zebra danios do prefer a longer tank but it's not especially needed.

If you go for platys make sure you get males. Your tank will be overrun and filled with fry in no time if you don't

You can get dwarf neon rainbowfish. melanotaenia praecox. I have them and they'd be suitable for your size of tank. Any other rainbowfish will outgrow your tank way too fast and they need more swimming space.

I've also had zebra danios in a 55L tank and they are speedy fish who will cover all areas of the tank quite happily. If you see the long finned variety, go for them. Stunning fish :D

For recommended fish shops... http://www.fishforums.net/content/Tropical-Chat/49879/here/ these are recommended by people on here. Also go to tropicalfishfinder dot co dot uk :D

Good luck :D

anyway a 60l tank is a good size as you can get a wide-ish variety of fish in it.

Change of heart from the OH means that I can now have an approx 100 litre tank. 36x15x12 inches. However I'll be needing to get all of the internals myself as the one I've got my eye on is just the physical tank.

I've also put prices next to them and listed the e-store I'm likely to order from, so if I'm about to get ripped off, please do tell! Also if you could recommend a better value alternative then I'd be grateful!
Just want to have a tank that'll thrive, with minimal painful newbie mistakes.
