I have decuded i would like to either build a new led with built in LED lights or adde them to the existing lid of my daufghter jewel rekord 60l tank.
it have a few basic plants and a standard t8 bulb fitted at the moment but i quite fancy setting up a new lid with daytime LED's and a blue or red nightime light.
any thoughts or suggestions if this is possible and what LED's to use

cheers

Keeping in mind you'll need 3 watt LEDs, A lot of them, drivers and really really good cooling system in order for them to work. Sure if you buy the cheapish ones off ebay you'll get some cool lighting but in no way will aid plant growth. Most LEDs are insanely underpowered.

With that said, you could make yourself a T5 ballast etc which would benafit plants more or talk to steveo and see about ordering a custom made LED kit for your tank.

depends on what you are putting int othe tank, if you want a planted tank or just a tank for fish, the 3W led's techen talks about are for planted tank's yes they can be used to non planted tanks but then you are wasting your money, any cheap LED will be fine for the tank if you are not going down the planted route :)
