well since my loss of the danios - i got 3 rainbow fish...

think they are courting... they are doingn what i read about - spinning round pointing at her tummy?

how long befre (and if im right) she drops eggs???

and if she does do i take them out???

thanks

I've had danios do this for months and the female never drops her eggs. They do spawn for me occasionally, but I can never guess when a female's about to pop. The way danios breed, though, you probably won't be able to remove the eggs - they race through the water spraying them all over the place. The rest of the fish will go berzerk eating them all.

If you do want to try and successfully spawn them, move the whole shoal into a breeding tank and add some protein rich food to their diet.

However, even if you leave the eggs or fry to be eaten, any birth or breeding behavior is a sign of healthy and happy fish.

An old trick, from the 1950s, that would work well today for breeding zebras is to cover the bottom of a tank with children's glass marbles and lower the water level in the tank to maybe 6 inches deep. When the zebras breed they cannot get at the eggs to eat them so the eggs survive. When the breeding is done, remove the parents and wait for the eggs to hatch. It sounds simple because it is. The fish don't stand a chance to eat many eggs so most will survive.

when will they drop eggs??
