I have been reading others Cycle diaries...and i havent a clue what i am doing :-(
i need someone to hold my hand.

I have calculated i need 3.74 ml of ammonia for my 71L tank..so do i add that all at once..and do i add that ammount every day?

Sorry for sounding dim...i never thought it was this complicated? :-(

Do you have a test kit? If not, you will need to buy one.

Yes you add that ammonia all at once. You add it on day 1. Then test your ammonia level again on about day 10. There's no point testing sooner - the level will not have dropped by then if you're cycling from scratch. If you have started to see a drop in ammonia level then test daily from now on. If not, leave it a few more days, then test again.

Once your level drops to 0, that's when you add another lot of ammonia to raise the level back up. You add the ammonia each time the level drops to 0, a maximum of once every 24 hours.

The ammonia you ordered, is it just ammonia and water? Usually in the UK people buy their ammonia from boots or sainsbury's homebase...

well if you see my other post "conflicting advice"..i had 3x mollies in the tank for 3 days before they died of ammonia poisioning.
I have the API master testing kit which i have been testing with. The men in the LFS said it had already cycled and the fish had done there job...but i have as yet not seen any nitrites or nitrates. The Ammonia level is currently at 0.5ppm.
I ordered the "kleenoff household cleaner" which i have seen others use 9.5%
xx

OK, just take some deep breaths... :)

Have you read the beginner's section on "Add and Wait" fishless cycling? That is one of the easy ways of doing it.

You've got an empty tank and all the gear that you need. The calculator in the beginner section will tell you how much ammonia to add (you've got the right stuff).

Bring the tank up to the correct temp (29-30 Deg C), add the ammonia and cover the tank with a thick sheet / table cloth to cut out the light and prevent Algae. Wait (practice testing the water and make sure you know what the tap water / pre ammonia tank water tested at).

Jobs a good one

yes I saw it, the advice remains the same.

Good that you have a test kit, and glad the ammonia is the right stuff.

You'll be fine :good:
