well i have a 1.5 gal betta bowl. no areation is provided. this is the first time thois has happend but theres a thick film on the serface of the water. should i siphon the top off? its pretty gross. i think its because theres no surface iritation but still this isnt noraml...

I get that too, most betta tanks have it. :) It doesn't affect the fish, if you touch the surface of the water lightly it disperses. It isn't dangerous - siphoning it off would stress your fish out.

I don't know what causes it... have you changed foods or anything?

I get that also on my betta bowl. It usually occurs if i wait too long to change the water. I then get rid of all the water since it will start to smell although it does not seem to bother the fish. It is stagnant water/
