Hi,
Maybe you guys can figure out what I keep doing so wrong :( Heres the whole story...

Ok so I set my 10 gallon tank up back in Feb 05. I had my problems with internal parasites (all from a female guppy) but eventually everything was fine. I added fish off and on (when there was space of course) and everything was perfect.

About 4 days I added 2 female guppies and 2 frogs. I noticed the next day the frog was missing some of his foot, I than noticed that white stuff was growing on it. I took him out and he died soon after. Than one of my molly fry died, than a guppy and my female betta. That happened last night. I just got home and now my last female guppy is dead... They are have the same white stuff on there mouth. Its columis?? (sp?)

Could the frog of transfered his fungas to the fish? Also what should I do now to insure the remaining fish are ok?

I just dont understand whats going on here. Everything was perfect and now its all messed up.

If anyone has some advice, comments or suggestions that would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks for listening :X

Fungus is a contagious and lethal problem that will easily start from open wounds like the frogs. It's also very easy to treat with medication. PimaFix by Aquarium Pharmeceuticals is an excellent product.

My 2 cents worth....

If your fishes are dying from fungus infections, wyou would be able to see the fungus growth pretty clearly.... and it takes a while for fungus infection to kill... my last batch of platies lasted more than a week before kicking the bucket.

I would do a test on the the perimeters of the water.... better still if you just clear out your tank and re-cycle the whole thing.....

My fear is that while we can test the water for NO3 NH4..etc..etc.... i'm sure it is not comprehensive.... and fishes dying off with no cause..... there might be something in the water that we don't know about...

Alternatively, (which was what i did the last time) is to place all the fishes else where for a while, do a 90% water change..... add in antibiotics.... and let the tank run w/o fishes for 2 weeks or 3 weeks before putting the fishes back......

i hope this will help you... and keep you fishes happy

it my be columnaris. Is it like a fuz on you fish that died? Did they have it for like 12 hrs and then die?

It was a white fuzz on the frogs leg and than on the fish it was white on there mouth. And it was like all of a sudden they got the fungas and than soon after they died.
That does sound like a good idea to put the fish elsewhere and start all over again.
I maybe able to get a 10 gallon I can set up and put the fish in there but what water do I put in there? Im not sure if I have a extra filter though, but I do have a heater. Would that work?
Also I did use primafix on the frog and one of the guppys and they still died. I used it when there were in a jar.

I used it when there were in a jar.
Yikes, under medication fish should be in filtered and well aerated water! Best to treat the whole main tank and run an airstone or two.

Well I had to get them out of the main tank as fast as possible because I didnt want it spreading to the other fish because it just spread so fast... I know the jar wasent the best decision but I was also thinking about the fish that were healthy...

Everyone seems to be ok now...

Wilder, you exactly right. If my fish are ok now do I still have to treat the tank?

Hiya, I've been losing fish too although not sure if ir's the same thing. My rainbow cichlid got marks around his mouth before he died and also a cobalt zebra cichlid. Have ordered some maracyn 2 but I'm going to wait and see if any other fish get poorly before I use it.

Mariah:

As it says in that article - using salt helps. So using the lower of the two doses recommended (1 tsp /gal) would definitely help the rest of your tank.

Plenty of salt baths the desease hates salt, good luck, water changes on the tank as well.
