My fish don't seem to like the brown coloured bits in the flake food I feed them.

I've been watching this for a few weeks now after I noticed that the fish would bite the brown coloured flake but then spit it out and let it fall onto the gravel. All the other colours of flake get eaten right away, but not the brown. Then I realised that, when inspecting the debris after hoovering the gravel, there is always lots of brown bits of food in with the waste!

I'm not concerned and actually find it quite funny. But I wondered whether anyone else has noticed anything like this?

Perhaps it's like the green sweets no one wants in a pack of fruit chews!

i have notice things like this happen also. I bought tetramin tropical flakes and my fish eat the green and red right away but dont like the brown/orange one. I think im going to switch to pellet soon.

That's the brand I use! They really are demanding these fish... now I'll have to start picking all the brown bits out at feeding time! ;)

Ok guys
Maybe we should write to the company cuz my fish won't eat those colors/flakes. What do you think is in those flakes? :byebye:

What kind of fish do you have?

4 Harlequins, 1 Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami and a couple of Zebra Danios.

I'm surprised at the Gourami though because I'm sure if I left my hand in there long enough he'd eat it!

Only thing we both have are the Rasboro's. I've got Apisto's, Tetras,Blue Rams,& Roseline shark. All of our fish are from differant areas of the world ( prob tank breed) so it isn't an area thing. Strange

The different colours are based on different food types, so that probably explains why the fish are picky about them. I think the green is plant matter and the red is meat/protein, but I'm not sure what the others are :dunno:
My fish who get fed tropical coloured pellets are picky about the colours... all except the platies that is. They'll eat anything. My new baby jaguar cichlid gets tropical crisps and betta pellets and he always spits out the orange crisps. Mini and Lil the small bettas have been getting some micro pellets because their mouths are too small for betta pellets, and they both spit out the green pellets, but Mini refuses to eat the orange ones too. Good thing everyone happily eats frozen bloodworms or I might be in trouble with such picky eaters :p

With mine is the dark grey bits. Should I threaten them with no pudding? (Doesn't work with my kids though. Mainly because I'm too lazy to provide a pudding in the first place).

Tetramin should get rid of that terrible brown one that none of the fish like :D Could anyone recommend a type of sinking pellet for cichlids?

I actualy switch the brand of food I feed every now and then so I can't say which it was I was feeding at the time but a while back my fish refused to eat the PINK flakes... I am also currently feeding tetramin and have not noticed any of my fish rejecting the brown flakes. In fact, they eat all of it quite happily. :)
